The Classical Figure in Full Color
a three day workshop with Robert Liberace
at a picturesque
Wye River estate near historic Easton, Maryland
September 15, 16, 17

WORKSHOP INFORMATION:
The
Classical Figure in Full Color. This class will explore the beauty
of the human figure with an emphasis on color. Students will create
several figure paintings in a variety of conditions both indoors
and plein air. These arrangements are designed to highlight the
particular influence light has on the figure in different environments.
The dynamics of color and shin tones will be stressed through various
color studies including set-ups with colored lights and "mud-head"
painting, a technique involving the set-up of a back-lighted model
out-doors which focuses the eye upon large color relationships rather
than isolated features. In addition to color exercises students
will have the opportunity to work on a long pose and the class will
explore different approaches to finishing paintings. Class
will go from 9 to 4 each day. An hour lunch break will be taken
around noon.
Cost:
$300
(model fees extra - to be paid at the workshop)

about
the instructor:
If
you can’t catch Rob’s classes at the Art League of Virginia
or at one of his seminars at the Portrait Society of America’s
annual conference, don’t miss this opportunity to learn from
one of America’s foremost portrait artists and teachers. Rob
is a contemporary classicist inspired by the old masters. He is equally
gifted in painting, drawing, and sculpture. In
February 2006, he was selected by The Artist's Magazine as
one of their choices for the top twenty realist artists under the
age of forty. In
April of 2003 Rob received the Grand Prize Award in the International
Portrait Competition from the Portrait Society of America. In 2002
he won their Best of Show Award. Rob has been commissioned to do portraits
for clients such as George Bush and Ambassador Sol Linowitz.
Rob received his B.F.A. and M.F.A. at George Washington University
where he was the recipient of both the Morris Louis Scholarship and
the National Academy of Arts and Letters Scholarship for painting.
American Artist magazine honored Rob with their “Emerging Artist
Award” and featured his work in their 1996 Art Master’s
issue. Rob is perhaps best known for his classic and distinctive style
of figure drawing. American Artist magazine highlighted Rob's drawing
techniques as the cover feature in their May 2002 annual drawing issue.
Rob is represented by the Arcadia Gallery in New York City and the
John Pence Gallery in San Francisco.

Lunches and Drinks Also, we're told that students
should bring their lunches since Easton is about 20 minutes
from the workshop site. You should also consider bringing mosquito
repellent, sunscreen, hat or visor, and a water bottle.
Special
travel considerations for those who fly In
view of the recent threats to the airlines, Rob will be happy
to supply solvents to anyone flying in, so
plan on bringing an empty small lidded container or jar to hold
solvents. Though oil paints and most artist's
mediums are not flammable, airport security guards will confiscate
them if you try to take them as carry-on. They must be checked
with your luggage. Make sure to pack them well and double bag
in plastic bags or containers so they don't soil your other
belongings if they are punctured. Since they will not be in
the pressurized part of the plane, there is the possibility
of bursting as well. BY ALL MEANS, PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR AIRLINE
FOR SPECIFIC RULES AND REGULATIONS REGARDING ARTIST'S MATERIALS.
Another option
is to ship oil paints and other non-flammables to the workshop
destination ahead of time. If all else fails, contact Rob and
he may be able to supply oil paints for you in some situations.
Here are more travel tips for
traveling with oil. |
